Eight Summerhawks teams travelled to Southern California over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend to participate in local tournaments.

The Mites played in the Wildcats tournament in Carlsbad, making it to the championship game where they lost by just one goal.  It was the boys' first competitive, score-keeping tournament.  Coach Eric said, "they had a great time and did really well!"

Most other Summerhawks teams played in the Jr. Ducks Shootout in the Anaheim area.

Squirt A had a tough weekend at 0-3-1, but learned a lot - especially the first year squirts.

Squirt B went in primarily as a team that had never played full ice hockey. They faced tough opponents that had played together for far longer than the Hawks have even known each other. Lead by the "mighty mite" line, they won their consolation game and finished 3rd in the West division.

Peewee A went 5-0, taking 1st place by shutting out the host Jr. Ducks team 4-0 in the finals.  They let in only 3 goals throughout the tournament (the fewest of any team), earning goalie Zain Raza the MVP award.  Coach Lino said, "... stellar goaltending, great defensive play and some highlight reel goals sealed the deal".

Peewee B finished third after being tied for the best record overall in an evenly matched division, and falling behind due to goal differentials and a 2-1 loss in the semi-final.

Bantam A finished in 1st place.  Scott McManus, a long time Hawk, won MVP with 12 goals and 6 assists.

Bantam B finished in 2nd place against a hard fought Colorado Bandits team.  The Hawks scored 4 of the 5 total goals given up by the Bandits in the entire tournament.

Midget 18U Open played in the Ice Station Hockey Challenge in Valencia.  The Midgets were challenged, but battled hard against their opponents. They developed their team play and honed their individual skills at an accelerated rate through a trial by fire.

Congratulations to all the summer teams, and good luck to all the players in the fall!
